Which plant suits me?

Most houseplants don't die from neglect — they die from a mismatch between what they need and what a room actually offers. Tell us about your light, your schedule, and your space, and we'll point you toward species that stand a real chance.

How it works

Same two-path structure as our animal quiz: a quick check if you already have a plant in mind, or a full discovery flow (6 questions) if you're starting blank. We look at your room's actual light level, how often you'll realistically water, available space, your gardening experience, and whether kids or pets are around — a room that's truly unsuitable for a species removes it from the results, while pets or kids weigh heavily on the ranking without automatically ruling out an otherwise good match: every risk we find is explained clearly in your result.

Frequently asked questions

Does the quiz account for pets in the house?
Yes. Flag a cat or dog and any species that's toxic to them gets penalized in the ranking and flagged with a clear warning (with a source when available) instead of being removed outright — so you can still see options that just need careful placement.

My place doesn't get much light — any options?
Several, including snake plant and pothos, which tolerate low to medium light well. The quiz will steer you toward these rather than sun-hungry species.

Does a good match guarantee my plant survives?
No — it removes the obvious mismatches, but consistent care still matters most. Our Advice section covers watering and everyday care in more depth.
