Profile
A herding breed from the Anglo-Scottish border, developed to work livestock. This heritage explains its near-vital need for a job and mental stimulation โ without an outlet, it can develop compulsive behaviors.
Feeding
- High energy needs proportional to activity level
- Diet rich in quality protein
Grooming & care
- Weekly brushing, more during shedding
- Daily physical AND mental activity is essential: agility, tracking games, dog sports
- Consistent training from a young age
Daily life
Not recommended for a sedentary lifestyle or an apartment without serious compensatory activity. Thrives with an active family, ideally with outdoor access and structured activities. Physical exercise alone isn't enough: without a regular mental task (puzzle games, training, agility), an understimulated Border Collie often develops anxiety or compulsive behaviors โ chasing shadows or light reflections, excessive barking, destructiveness. Its herding instinct, inherited from generations bred to work livestock, sometimes gets redirected toward children, bikes, or cars without early training to channel it.
