Profile
The Cavalier King Charles is a companion spaniel with an affectionate, calm temperament. Unlike many small breeds, it barks little and adapts remarkably well to apartment life, while still enjoying outdoor time.
Feeding
- Puppy: small-breed growth formula, 3 meals/day
- Adult: 2 meals/day, watch weight (prone to gaining)
- Senior: joint-support formula; the breed is predisposed to mitral valve disease (MVD) with age โ regular vet checkups recommended
MVD is the most common heart condition in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, with a markedly higher prevalence than in most breeds of comparable size โ an annual cardiac check from age 4โ5 can catch a heart murmur early, before visible symptoms appear.

Grooming & care
- Brushing 2โ3 times/week (silky, semi-long coat)
- Watch floppy ears for moisture buildup
- Moderate daily exercise (30โ45 min) is sufficient
Daily life
This need for company isn't incidental โ the Cavalier is one of the least independent breeds around, bred for generations as a lap companion rather than for independent work, so it actively seeks contact rather than merely tolerating it.
