Profile
Native to Southeast Asia, the Pothos is a trailing vine with heart-shaped leaves, often variegated with yellow or white depending on the variety. It grows well in hanging pots or climbing a moss pole.
Light & watering
- Light: tolerates shade, prefers medium indirect light
- Watering: let the soil dry out between waterings (every 7โ14 days)
- Humidity: no special requirements, adapts well to dry heated indoor air
Care
- Repot every 2 years, in spring
- Trim vines to encourage fuller growth
Growth & propagation
- Among the easiest plants to propagate in water: a stem cutting with a node (small bump) grows roots within 2โ3 weeks, no rooting hormone needed
- Trails naturally in a hanging pot or climbs on a pole โ on a pole, mature leaves can grow noticeably larger and sometimes split slightly, unlike the trailing habit
- Regularly trimming long vines encourages a fuller, bushier plant instead of long, bare-at-the-base stems
- A single yellow leaf is normal aging and can be removed; several leaves yellowing at once usually points to overwatering
